About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to build and own the core systems that power 247Bet's platform.

You will work on systems handling real-money transactions and real-time activity, including the wallet, betting engine, live betting, settlement, copy-betting infrastructure and social features.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex backend problems and taking genuine ownership of production systems. Correctness, reliability and resilience are critical, particularly where financial transactions and betting outcomes are involved.

Our backend stack is built primarily around C#/.NET and AWS, with an event-driven architecture using Kafka, PostgreSQL and Redis.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain backend services using C# / .NET 8+ across wallet, betting, settlement and social domains.
• Build and maintain event-driven systems using Kafka and appropriate delivery/processing guarantees for transaction-critical workflows.
• Design reliable systems with strong idempotency, retry handling and failure recovery, particularly for financial transactions.
• Model, optimise and maintain data using PostgreSQL, with Redis for caching and real-time state.
• Integrate with third-party providers including odds/trading feeds, payment gateways, KYC and fraud-prevention platforms.
• Write well-tested, observable and production-grade code.
• Take ownership of backend services through development, deployment, monitoring and production support.
• Participate in architecture and design reviews, code reviews and incident response.
• Build systems that remain reliable under real-world conditions, including unreliable networks, retries and uncertain transaction outcomes.
• Collaborate with frontend and mobile engineers to design clean and efficient API contracts.
• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues.
• Mentor mid-level engineers and contribute to raising the overall engineering standard of the team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong expertise in C# / .NET, ideally .NET 6+ or .NET 8+.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, event-driven architecture and data modelling.
• Hands-on production experience with PostgreSQL and Redis.
• Experience with Kafka or an equivalent message broker.
• Solid cloud experience, with AWS preferred.
• Experience with Kubernetes/EKS is an advantage.
• Demonstrated experience building systems where correctness and reliability are critical, such as payments, financial systems, ledgers, trading or other transaction-heavy platforms.
• Strong understanding of testing practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience owning production systems and participating in incident response.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Clear communication and ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Frontend, Mobile and other Engineering teams.
• Ability to balance engineering quality with the need to deliver and ship products.

Nice to Have

• Experience in sports betting, gaming, fintech or other high-transaction-volume platforms.
• Experience working with betting, payments or financial transaction systems.
• Familiarity with Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns for mobile and web applications.
• Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, OpenTelemetry or equivalent.
• Experience building technology products for African markets, particularly Nigeria.
• Experience with live betting, odds feeds, settlement systems or trading integrations.
